The Gallery & Upstairs Hall

At the top of the stairs, on the upper level, you will pass through an antique pocket door.  This door is the twin to the door that goes to the lower level.

Upon entering the doorway, you will find yourself on a large gallery that over looks the great room.  This area is large enough to be a small setting area.

Turn around and look above the stairway door.

Looking above the door you will find another, very unique designed, hand built, small door.  It has crown molding on the top and bottom that match the stunning crown molding found throughout this gallery and on into the great room.  There is a storage place behind this door.  Every inch of this spacious home is put to use.  Storage abounds everywhere.

Now notice the view from this area.

Four large windows face the front and give a panoramic view of the front gardens and the woods across the lane.  The first picture on the left shows the four large windows on the north side.  The second picture shows the windows that are above these windows..  The right picture shows the view looking out over the great room.

From this vantage point, you can really appreciate the large windows sitting along the prow wall.  These allow you to look out toward the lake area.  The entire scene is stunning.

In the center of the gallery hangs an antique light fixture.  Cupid hangs from it’s center, smiling down on you.  Legend says this light fixture is blessed and all who walk under it will find love.

The south "wall" overlooks the great room.

This "wall" is in actually, smaller posts between the large ones.  These were made by the same artist who decorated the large post they are attached to.  Notice in the picture that gas lights have also been placed on the posts here on the third floor.

Tulip lights have been placed all along the bottom of the railing.  Very unusual.  Very delightful.  These lights match the tulip lights that run alone the wall in the west wing.

Here you will find the same beautiful large beams that are found below.  These posts are part of the support of this post and beam home.  The posts have attractive railing in-between each one.  In front of the railings are beautiful tulip lights.  (Picture below)

From this view you will be able to more appreciate the post and beam magnificence of this home.  You can view close up the large posts and sturdy beams that make the home strong.  And the view of the massive great room, lovely bay windows and fireplace is astounding.

From here you can also more appreciate the cat walk the extends most of the way around the great room.  A striking, antique, iron gate sits at the access to the catwalk.  The gate is both for beauty and for safety, so no one can enter the catwalk without the combination for the lock that keeps this area safe.

Picture on the left is going onto the catwalk.  Picture on the right is coming from the catwalk.

Take a walk along the cat walk and get a different view of the great room from all angles.  When you're at the prow, take a look outside and enjoy the serene view of the hillside, the lake, and the woods beyond.

From the gallery you can go two different ways, east or west.  You can either go to your left (east) where the master suite lies or to your right (west) to enter the west wing.

Turning toward the west wing you enter a long hall.  Stunning tulip light fixtures grace the entire distance.  These light match the tulip lights that are in front of the railing.  Notice in the picture the beautiful crown molding gracing the ceiling.

This direction, west, takes you to the other two bedrooms located on this floor, to the cave, and to the guest bath and a cedar closet.

As you turn toward the long extensive hall you will see a lovely door to your right.  This door is a pretty antique door from England.  Behind it is the elevator shaft.

At the end of the hall you see a set of very unusual doors that swing both ways.  They lead to the Chinese bedroom.

These doors are from China, thus the name of the bedroom.  They have intricate designs on them of dragons and other things that the Chinese believe will keep evil spirits away.  They truly are stunning.  The pictures below show the hallway both in darkness and in light.

Since the other bedroom doors are explained on their respective pages, let's look at a couple more of the things located in this hall, a built-in bookcase and the dumbwaiter.

One is the dumbwaiter shaft.  Double doors are made here to enclose the dumbwaiter and to keep little hands free.  A great place to send items up and down.

There is a beautiful bookshelf/curio cabinet built into the wall.  It breaks the monotony of the long hall.  The picture on the right shows the doors to the dumbwaiter.  A Dragon has been painted here by a local artist.  A Dragon was chosen because this sits next to the Chinese double doors that lead you into the Chinese bedroom.  The Chinese believe Dragons are good and keep evil away.

Beauty, enchantment and secrets.  What a lovely way to introduce the upper floor!
